      MONROE - Jospeh Wanlass, 81, died Tuesday at his home in Monroe after a lingering illness.
      Mr. Wanlass was born Nov. 5, 1866, in Armadale, Scotland, a son of James and Margaret Nelson Wanlass. He came to the United States at the age of 9 with his parents. He married Rachel Kirkham in 1897 in Salt Lake City.
      He was employed for many years by the Utah Idaho Sugar Co. And was a high priest in the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the time of his death.
      Besides his widow, he is survived by the following children: Sylvan Wanlass, El Monte, Cal.; LeRoy Wanlass, Marshall Islands; Floyd Wanlass, Monroe; Mrs. Marie Hoggan, Burbank Cal.,; Mrs. Thelma Mayer, Richfield; Mrs. Zona West, Lomite, Cal,; 18 grandchildren and one great- grandchild.
      Funeral services will be held in Monroe North LDS ward chapel Saturday at 1 p.m. with bishop All Lundgreen officiating. Burial will be in Monroe City cemetery under direction of Neal E. Magebly mortuary.
      Friends may call at the family home Saturday until time of services.
