    Notes
    • We know from son Wm's christening that Wm was married to Ann, and we know from son Wm's marriage to Charlotte Sirrs that dad Wm was a countryman (a farmer). The most logical marriage is for Wm Wanless & Ann English, who married in Chester-le-Street the year before they started having kids. After 1821, they disappear from the Chester-le-Street register. Then they turn up in Bishopwearmouth with more children, then Wm died and Ann remarried to Thomas Smith. Her daughter Sarah Smith's birth cert verifies that her mother was Ann English.

Note Wm was a gardner/husbandman/countryman and son Wm became a fruiterer and gardener, and son John was a gardener in 1851.

Best fit for parents: William Wanlas chr. 31 MAY 1795 Chester Le Street, Durham, England, parents Thomas & Jane; likely Thomas Wanless & Jane Embleton who married in CLS in 1791. On the other hand - they had a son Emelton William in 1800; would they use the name William twice?

Alternatively, Wm s/o John W & Eleanor Fenwick was born Dec 1794 in Byker, where Thomas Smith was from, and we have nothing on him after his birth - and it's HIS sister Elizabeth that seems to have married Henderson Smith, so Ann English would have known the Smith family as in-laws.
