Age at time of death as shown on death certificate - 87 years

Cause of death - Natural Decay

Great Granddaughter Lucy Davison (1868 - 1960, daughter of Eleanor Wandlass) recalled that when she was a small child he often took her with him when he collected rents from his tenants. She remembered he wore a tartan kilt with a leather pouch to hold the rent money from which he used to give her a few small coins.
His brother George's Great Grandson, Robert Wellburn (1896, son of Hannah Goulden Wandlass) left a hand drawn family tree referring to him as the tartan kilted Jack Wandlass.

1873 marriage certificate lists his father as John Wandlass, deceased farmer.

The Newcastle Courant etc (Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England), Friday, November 16, 1849
Sunderland Police - George Newton of Southwick, for wilful damage to a haystack, property of John Wandlass, was fined 6d and costs.

Map: Wandlass Place, Southwick, Durham, England
Map: Wandlass Place, Southwick, Durham, England
Probably named after John Wandlass (1792-1875), a shipowner who lived there (s/o John Wandlass & Jane Brown). A set of buildings called Wandlass Place appears in each census from 1841 through 1891 and on several maps from 1855 onwards, but on the 1895 O.S. map they are just shown as part of Fern Avenue, just north east of Southwick Parish Church, which is where you can find what appear to be three of the original buildings today. In the LDS version of the 1881 census they have been transcribed as "Handlass St."." This picture is from an 1880 map which appears to be an identical (but better quality) reprint of an 1855 map.
