    Notes
    • Called Vernon or Verne. Died at age 26 of spinal meningitis, contracted while on a journey to Sioux City with his younger brother Jay. Census records show him in St. Joseph's Hospital in Sioux City a few weeks before he died. Memoirs of Dorothy (Jay's dau.) say how father Emile came to S.C., turned Vernon over and saw terrible bedsores on his son and raged at the nurses. Both Emile & Ladorah were in Sioux City for the 1900 census. They and the family lived in Half Rock, Missouri at the time (have copy of obit).
