    Notes
    • It was earlier reported by another researcher that Jessie's middle initial was "O.", supposedly taken from her death certificate, but this is an error - she had no middle initial on her death cert or anywhere else. [descendant Eddy Price]

Family legend said her mother died when she was 6. She is living with her grandparents at age 2 in 1871 while her mother & aunt Margaret are visiting Dorothy & William Richmond in Darlington. Family legend also said her father died before she was born, which might be true, but her parents were apparently not married according to her birth certificate. Family legend also said that she was raised by her uncle & aunt or grandparents named Richmond, but this does not appear to be true from the small snapshot taken by each census. She supposedly had a cousin or aunt named Dora Annie Richmond also raised by them who was an actress in Durham, around Spennymoor. Eddy Price has photos labeled "mother's grandpa Richmond", taken in Darlington. Note William Richmond and Dora Annie Richmond were witnesses at Jessie's marriage. From the following 1881 census entry, it looks like perhaps Wm Richmond's wife was Jane Laws' sister, making Jessie the great-niece of Wm & Dorothy:
