    Notes
    • Possible birth: Wanlass Joseph Auckland 1862 Mar 10a 139
Could try Bishop Auckland (Auckland St Andrew) christenings. Also could've been christened at Etherley. Military discharge papers say he was born at Evenwood near Bishop Auckland and that his next-of-kin is a half-brother Samuel Wanless of Toft Hill, Evenwood. In Jan 1887 he is 24 yrs 11 mos, so was probably born about Feb 1862, which corresponds to the GRO index above.

Possible christening at Etherley (from the IGI) 4 years later:
      06 May 1866 Joseph s/o Ann Wanless

Must be some relation to the Vickers family and Gill family. He lives with the Thomas Gill family in 1871 and they have a Vickers niece and Vickerses next door; then he lives with Vickers in 1881 and back with Thomas Gill in 1901.

Can't find in 1891 census, which makes sense because his military papers say he was in India from 1887-1893.

      Not found in 1911 census.
