    Notes
    • Images of this document are filed at Wanless Web, linked to this person. We assume she married a Wanless before 1874; it is also spelled Wandless in another part of the land document. It could just as easily be Wauless and Waudless. One would think that, in Charleston, the best candidate for her husband would be Capt. John Andrew Wanless, who left SC for the west just before the Civil War - did he marry her and leave her?

Elizabeth Jane L.D. Wanless of Charleston, for $100 paid by Elizabeth Ann D. Ackerman of Charleston, grants land and buildings therein in Christ Church Parish, county of Charleston, known as the Dorrell block or tract of land containing 130 acres, it being the same land and premises owned and occupied by my grandfather the late James Dorrell, the use of which by will and testament he devised to my father Wm Samuel Dorrell during his lifetime and at his death the use of the same to his two daughters Anna Whiteside R. Dorrill and Elizabeth Jane Secony(?) Dorrell during their natural life and at their death the same land and premises should become the property of his (the said James Dorill) two grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Derick(?) and William Samuel Dorrill, said land bordering upon the waters of Wando River.
To the said Elizabeth Ann Derick(?) Ackerman.
Signed: Elizabeth J.L.D. Wanless (her mark)
Witnesses: James L. Shepherd, H.C. McIntyre
      (page 2):
Personally appeared before me H.C. McIntyre and I saw Elizabeth Jane L.D. Wandless sign this deed.
      Recorded 17 Feb 1874.
      ----------------------------
The Wando river is now called Cooper River. Mount Pleasant parish evolved from Christ Church parish. There are Dorrells and Whitesides in early Christ Church parish (1770s). "Derick", which is hard to read, may be "Dewitt" in the 1850 census entry below.

Moses Whitesides age 60 and his family live a few houses after the Dorrills. Thomas Jervey married Angeline Dorrill in 1833 in Charleston. "Married on Thursday morning 3d inst., by the Rev. Dr. McDowell, Mr. Thomas Jervey of Christ Church Parish, to Miss Angeline, youngest daughter of R. Dorrill, Esq. of this city. "
-- so Robert above, b. abt 1767, is probably the father of A. (Angeline) Jervey. Another site says Angeline was the d/o Robert Dorrell & Martha Whitesides.

      Is this her?
