      Obituary
Margaret Walker, relict of James Wanless, sr, was born in Scotland, Feb 20th, 1815, and died at her residence March 6th, 1908, in her 94th year. She came to Canada with her husband in the year 1843, settling in that part of Stanley township which came to be known later as Varna. Here she continued to live until the day of her demise. The deceased enjoyed unusually good health up to within two days of her death, after which she gradually grew weaker, and the end came unexpectedly. She retained consciousness however, until the last. During her life she had proven herself to be a faithful and devoted mother and a consistent and loyal member of the Methodist church. A woman wth strong veneration for her Maker, she was deeply interested in all phases of christian work, and her devotion to God and the church never flagged. She leaves four sons and one daugher, James, William, and John, residents of Varna, Thomas of Blyth, and Mrs. W. Stinson of Mountain Home, Idaho. The remains were laid to rest in Varna cemetery on Sabbath last, following which Rev. Allan Brown preached a funeral sermon in the Methodist church in honor of the deceased.

Far left with hands folded together is George Turnbull, husband of Sarah Elizabeth Wanless; far right is Sarah Elizabeth with their first-born daughter Ella who was born 1898-99. John Wanless is supposed to be to the right of his mother Margaret, and his wife Sarah Rife Wanless is in the back, 2nd from the left. We have not yet put names to the rest of the people, although presumably they are related.
