      Former Sheriff Dead
      John F. Wanless, of Thorny Creek, a former sheriff of Pocahontas County, West Virginia, is dead at the age of 87 years. He was a Union soldier and was elected sheriff shortly after the war. Mr. Wanless was the son of Stephen Wanless who was killed 86 years ago while shoeing a refractory horse. After the death of his father, he was adopted by his uncle, Rev. James Wanless.
