20 Oct 1865 First trial of the Cramlington Colliery strikers who rioted on 13 Oct to protest the eviction of strikers from colliery-owned houses at West Cramlington Colliery

Thomas Wanless, a hewer from West Cramlington (although one article says Seghill) was charged with rioting, along with 5 others. This trial was at the Moot Hall Police Court in Newcastle, and the judges voted to send the trial to the Quarter Sessions even though that gave the defense only 1 day to prepare their defense.
